Welcome to the fine-art and documentary photography web site of David Lykes Keenan.
Dave resides in Austin, Texas and has been photographing on and off since being presented with a clunky East German camera circa 1966. Since 2003, he was been steadily pursuing a life change in the direction of fine art photography. Recently he stepped back from his software business to focus on photography full time. Dave's first love is street photography, in black and white, using a small, unobtrusive rangefinder camera. People, usually random and anonymous, are essential elements of these photographs. His preferred method is to see, photograph, but not be seen. Recent projects include street photography in various locales in Europe, New York City street panoramics, a photo essay on the war ravaged Croatian city of Vukovar, month long frame-a-day projects in Austin, an exploration of color infrared pinhole photography, and most recently recording odd angles of his world with a plastic toy camera. CURRENT April 14 - ??? -- A selection from Dave's New Europeans series of street photography goes on display on this date within Austin's premier camera store Precision Camera. A wine and cheese reception is planned but no date has been set yet.
April 19 - May 24, 2008 -- Three of Dave's black and white street photographs (including two never publicly exhibited before) were selected to be part of the Urban Ambience group show at the Watson Studio Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. Dave's "Salvation" photograph was awarded an Honorable Mention Best in Show. See all the selections here. FOTOFEST2008 April 2 - April 6, 2008 -- FOTOFEST2008 reviewers and attendees, please visit this special FOTOFEST2008 entry page. January 28 - April 13, 2008 -- Three of Dave's color infrared pinhole photographs were selected to be part of the Menage a Trois group show at the Watson Studio Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. Dave's series of three 2006 photographs from Pisa, Italy were selected for the show. These can be viewed in the Alternate Spectrum gallery. February 10 - March 23, 2008 -- A combined Grad Vukovar and updated New Europeans exhibition opens on this date at Hyde Park Bar & Grill restaurant on Duval Street in Austin. Within this selection of 38 black & white prints several have not previously been on public display. No formal opening festivities are planned. January 10 - February 24, 2008 -- One of Dave's street photographs is on display as part of Philadelphia's Project Basho ONWARD '08 competition. You can see the winning selections in the ONWARD '08 online gallery. December 2007 -- An 2007 respective exhibition is set for this month at Thunderbird Coffee on Koenig Lane in Austin. This show will feature prints of the various photographs that Dave had published or won awards for during 2007. [Details] |
